Ah, mindful meditation. I’ve heard so much about it, and I figured I should give it a try. Little did I know, I was about to embark on a journey of the mind like none other.
I set up my meditation space, lit some incense, and sat in a comfortable position. I was ready to start. I closed my eyes and began to focus on my breath.
But to my surprise, a troop of monkeys joined my meditation space! As I watched in surprise, they started jumping around, making loud noises, and generally being very distracting.
At first I was stunned, but then I started to laugh. I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to practice mindful meditation. Instead of getting frustrated and angry at my monkeys, I decided to observe them with curiosity and openness.
I watched them curiously, paying attention to their movements, the noises they made, and the way they interacted with each other. I noticed the thoughts and feelings that were arising in my mind in response my grand distractions, my monkeys. I started to see the monkeys differently, and I found myself feeling compassion towards my thoughts. The experience of mindful meditation with my mind monkeys was surprisingly enjoyable. It was a powerful reminder that no matter how distracting the external world may be, we can always find a way to remain deeply connected to the present moment.
